Last night was the Hindu celebration of Maha Shivarātri, the "Great Night of Shiva". Today is Valentine's Day. And tomorrow is the partial Solar Eclipse in Aquarius! So what is happening in the stars?
Venus is Exalted in Pisces, blissfully surrounding us with vibrations of love. How appropriate for Venus, the planet of love, to be in its sign of Exaltation on Valentine's Day! Venus is known as "Shukra" ("full of light", "bright") in Sanskrit. In Ayurveda, "Shukra" refers to the reproductive tissue, illustrating the role of Venus in fertility and immunity, the foundation of our life. Venus is also the planet of rejuvenation, and its entry into Pisces signifies the renewal of nature, the first energetic shift toward Spring.
On this Valentine's Day, we should all take time to reflect on love as the rejuvenating force in life. Nothing heals more deeply than love itself. It is the nature of life-energy to constantly renew itself, but significant shocks can leave us energetically deranged. It is Venus that allows us to recuperate from the inevitable shocks of life. We should use the potent Venus energy of this moment to rest, recover, and rejuvenate from the challenges of life.
The pleasures of Venus are usually considered to be restricted to the mundane aspects of life, the domain of human love and worldly satisfactions. But Venus has a higher expression. The higher expression of Venus is devotion, because the highest expression of love is the love of God. The highest pleasure is the ecstasy of spiritual devotion. It is the devotional surrender of our life-force that allows Divine Nourishment to flow into our being. This is the ultimate rejuvenation.
Valentine's Day is a wonderful opportunity to remind each other of love, at every level. Love is the foundation of life, just as Venus is the foundation of our life-force. May today be a celebration of love and life for everyone.
